Carrie Blake selected as RI Delegate for the A&E Recovery Project
Carrie Blake will join delegates from across the country and thousands of others at the 2010 Rally for Recovery "hub event" in Philadelphia on September 25th. This year’s hub event is being hosted by PRO-ACT, a southeastern Pennsylvania recovery organization, and is sponsored by A&E. Carrie is the former director of RICARES, and she was instrumental in helping to develop MARCAP, which is the RI Chapter of the National Alliance of Medication Assisted Recovery Advocates. Carrie has made numerous presentations on recovery topics throughout New England, including several programs inside the correctional facility, as well as co-presented at the AATOD Conference on "Reawakening The Creative Spirit in the Opioid Dependent Person." Carrie and four other RI recovery advocates--Dan Fitzpatrick, Gail DeWitt; Neil Corkery and Lori Dorsey--were nominated to represent Rhode Island by a local three-person panel, including a representative from BHDDH (formerly MHRH), one from Faces & Voices, and last year’s RI delegate, Jim Gillen of The Providence Center. All nominees meet A&E’s criteria for a delegate: they exemplify long-term recovery, help raise awareness that recovery works, and share their perspectives and stories of recovery. A&E made the final selection from among this talented and dedicated group of advocates. All will be recognized at the RI Rally for Recovery on September 11th. Be sure to come and help us congratulate them!
