The RI Rally for Recovery
is Rhode Island's celebration of National Alcohol & Drug
Addiction Recovery Month. This year's theme is Join
the Voices for Recovery: NOW, more than ever. This
rally brings together diverse segments of the recovery
community--individuals in recovery from alcohol and drug
addictions, the mental health and developmental disabilities communities, behavioral health treatment
providers, family members, friends and advocates of
recovery, and our partners in government - to celebrate
the commitment we all share to the recovery movement.
This event has grown every year since it was first held
on a small patch of grass outside the Department of
Mental Health, Retardation and Hospitals in 2003, to
last year's event, which drew over 1,500 people to the
downtown Providence area.
The Rally for Recovery is a FREE, family-friendly
festival with great activities for the kids including
arts & crafts, face painting, a reptile show, toys &
balloons, and more. It is also an educational event
which seeks to raise awareness about drug and alcohol
addiction, mental illness, developmental disabilities,
and the journey of recovery. Over fifty organizations
from across Rhode Island set up information tables to
help us share this message. The program also includes a
great line-up of speakers, from local lawmakers and
advocates to individuals sharing their personal stories
of recovery--all of whom bring hope that recovery is
possible. This year for the first time we will also have
participation from the National Guard and be able to
honor those who have served our country so bravely. And
what great festival would be complete without lively
music and a lot of food!
We are planning what is sure to be another successful event this year and hope that you will join us & be a part of our Annual RI Rally for Recovery!
